Ellu podi for Idli, Dosa and Rice - Sesame Seed Powder






This Ellu podi is well with Idly, dosa and adding sesame oil.I like this with dilute coconut chutney very much. .I taste it with my sister-in-law's house in Coimbatore. So I put this recipe.

 Ingredients:


1/2 kg ------------- black sesame seed
100 gram--------- Roasted gram (Pottukadalai)
4 sprigs----------- curry leaves
10 no s------------dried red chillies
Garlic cloves-----5-6
Tamarind---------amla  size
Salt----------------as needed
1 teaspoon------- asafoetida (hing)(Optional)


  Method:

          In a pan, roast the sesame seeds until they are 
          glossy and aromatic. Set aside on a plate to cool.
  
             In the same pan, dry roast the curry leaves and
             the dried red chillies. 
            Wait for the curry leaves to dry and the chillies to fluff up.
            Grind red chilli, garlic, tamarind, roasted gram 
            and salt in a  mixer jar. Kept aside in a bowl.
            Now grind Ellu (Sesame seeds) with above ground   
            powder.  


          Add  asafoetida (hing ).(Optional)


 You can store this ellu podi at room temperature for up to 20-30 days. If you are going to use it for a longer time, then store the podi in the freezer. It stays fresh for upto 4-5 months in the freezer.
